Cruising on the Road to 2014: Atupele Muluzi

Orison Swett Marden (1850 – 1924), an American writer, with a degree in medicine, and a successful hotel owner believed in the power of the youth. Amongst the legacy he left the youth is a treasure that challenges the youth to excel.

“Every youth” he said, “owes it to himself and to the world to make the most possible out of the stuff that is in him.”

One youth who has taken Marden at his word is Atupele Austin Muluzi, M.P. Machinga North East. If several recent opinion polls are anything to by, Atupele is leading the pack of presidential aspirants on the road to 2014.

Atupele: Presidential aspirant

His spirited bid for 2014 presidential candidacy is nothing short of controversy, a marvel to behold and it has spectators, both sympathetic and hostile, sitting on the edge of their seats as they try to savour, make sense of and understand the young man and his vision.

Following popular demand and public pressure, Wise One from the East (Columnist of the exclusive Nyasa Times series “On the Road to 2014”) weighs the stuff that Atupele is made of, his credentials and capabilities, with a view to demystifying the young man’s meteoric rise and assessing his chances in 2014 at the ballot.
