Defilement suspect commits suicide in Chiradzulu
Sorrow engulfed Chelewani Village in Traditional Authority Chitera in Chiradzulu on Saturday after a 59-year-old man Carlos Makala, a defilement suspect, poisoned himself to death.
Chiradzulu Police Station spokespersonYohane Tasowana confirmed incident.
He said it was alleged Makata was caught in the act of defilement on Friday March, 22 in Tepula Village and the matter was reported to Namadzi Police Post.
“Makata may have received a tip that the police were hunting for him and on Saturday, he consumed some pesticides (termic) apparently to escape justice and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Namadzi Health Centre,” Tasowana said.
He also said a medical report obtained from Namadzi Health Centre confirmed that the girl was defiled.
Meanwhile, police are advising people in conflict with the law not to commit suicide but instead should wait for justice to take its course.
