Kukoma Diamonds dislodged Tigresses on the summit table in the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League on Thursday after walloping Gerald Tasaukadala 113-14 baskets at Blantyre Youth Centre.
Diamonds have now 33 points from 11 games, while Tigresses are now on second position with 30 points from 11 games as well.
In Thursday’s game, Gerald Tasaukadala started with some energy as they led 2~0 in the first 4 minutes.
However, an exciting Diamonds stole the show with some classic netball, especially on the centre where Bridget Kumwenda and Shiera Dimba gelled well.
The combination of Kumwenda and Dimba gave Gerald Tasaukadala headache.
Wezzi Kayira was also outstanding as goal defender ,while Jessica Mazengera was hero of the day as she notched most of Diamonds baskets.
Despite missing the services of Towera Vinkhumbo and Alinafe Kamwala,Diamonds showed determination and the zeal to go on top of the log table.
After the final whistle, Diamonds coach Griffin Saenda praised his charges for the victory and vowed with the winning mentality.
“We are not turning back because our main aim is to finish the league without any defeat.Let me also take this opportunity to thank my players for the job well done,”said Saenda.
Southern Region Netball League General Secretary Annie Hanjahanja said teams should expect more mid week games since this weekend Blantyre Youth Centre will host the Presidential Cup Netball games.
