Divorce forces man to commit suicide, says Malawi Police
A 38-year-old man in Ntcheu district has committed suicide after he severely injured his wife who was in a process of divorcing him.
Police have identified the deceased as Titani Bauleni. He hanged himself to a tree in a forest and was found by passersby in the early morning hours of Tuesday 9thMay, 2017.
According to Ntcheu police, Bauleni and his 31-year-old wife, Khalidwe, were separated for over a year due to undisclosed disagreements.
“They used to quarrel over some family issues. They separated for over a year, and all this time the husband was trying hard for them to get back together. However, the wife refused,” explained Hastings Chigalu Ntcheu police Publicist.
“They agreed to engage their marriage councilors to resolve their differences. However, it was during that meeting where the wife told the councilors in the presence of a village headman that she was no longer interested in him considering of all what she went through.”
Bauleni did not take lightly his wife’s decision and on Monday May 8th, 2017, at around 8pm equipped with a panga knife, he went to the wife’s home where he severely stabbed her and was left unconscious.
She was rushed to Ntcheu District Hospital where she is currently being treated.
“Thinking that she was dead, the deceased (Bauleni) decided to commit suicide. But before killing himself, he had told his sister to look after his three children and harvest his maize garden. He told her that it was their last time to see each other,” added Chigalu.
Postmortem conducted by Ntcheu District Hospital revealed that death was due to suffocation.

It is too sad that Bauleni hanged himself because of a woman i know it is painful but lets resist . Otherwise Bauleni may have seen something in this woman that he was not going to find in another woman.. ….Oh Gosh poor Bauleni. Likomelenji Dziko………

Well done to the woman for refusing reconciliation because amuna ambiri anazolowera kuzunza and abusing their wives. They always expect a woman to tolerate and persevere – ati banja nkupilira. Fotseki! these days it is better to seek divorce than being in a marriage with an abusive and promiscuous man. It’s a woman’s right to refuse to take back an abusive man. Please dont blame bauleni blame the wife coz when they got inlove she charmed bauleni to be together for life now because as their love was growing old she she forced not to love Bauleni forgeting that she charmed him for ever. One year separation was long enough for Bauleni to heal and move on with his life…. I don’t know what went wrong. RIP
