DJ Boo to release a House album

Malawi’s renowned disc maestro, DJ Boo has disclosed that he will soon be releasing his debut House music album.

The FM 101 deejay, born Chifundo Ntwana told Nyasa Times that the 10-track album titled Bteez Finest Vol. 1 would be ready by March.

He will be the first Malawian artist to release a full House music CD and the album will be coming out at a time when Malawians are so into the South African popular genre.

DJ Boo: To release first House music album

“It’s something new to the Malawi music industry, but surprisingly enough it’s getting an overwhelming response from the fans out there,” said the 24-year-old who trades as Abantwana on the music circles.

The album’s first single titled ‘Nzakoyo (njibwa)’ featuring Diktator of the ‘Yanga Ija’ fame is already out and is enjoying airplay on radio, clubs and other entertainment joints.

According to DJ Boo, they are shooting the single’s music video and “it will be out soon”.

“Bteez Finest is the name of the label am working with and this project features a lot of the big names in the industry,” further revealed the DJ who earlier last year came on the music scene with two hip-hop singles.

DJ Boo has managed to establish himself as a force to reckon with on the Malawian club scene at his tender age and his popularity cannot be divorced from the House music that he enjoys playing.

He further told Nyasa Times that as ‘Abantwana’ he is only doing House music, “but as a musician I might jump on a hip-hop tune if someone wanted to feature me on their song”.

Asked why he decided to venture into house music, DJ Boo said he did not choose the genre neither because as a DJ he is known for playing house music nor because the genre is currently dominating the airwaves of Malawi.

“I used to do House, back in the days, but had to take a break and work on something that Malawians could relate to, and not be a copy cat at the end of the day,” he pointed out.

Added he: “I see Abantwana making it with House music because he has the right timing, plus the right genre of music.”

“I should also mention that am fusing our traditional local dances with the House music am doing, [and this] will be included in music videos plus on stage when am performing. It’s also one way to promote our own culture through music,” he said.

Having performed at the country’s popular clubs, among them Chez Ntemba, Twiga and Blue Elephant during his career, DJ Boo also performed at the Big Brother Amplified reality show in South Africa before his performance at last October’s Lake of Stars international music festival in Mangochi.
