DPP members shun Peter Mutharika on Bingu vigil
Former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members are reportedly shunning a vigil underway at State House in Lilongwe in respect of late president Bingu wa Mutharika
Mutharika’s brother Peter and former first lady Callista and other family members have been deserted and are being consoled by Catholic women, from a church Mutharika used to patronise.
The women donning purple and white and ordinary Malawians are singing songs day and night as the country awaits repatriation of the body back home from South Africa.
The absence of DPP die hard members at the palace is a cause of concern to many who are now condemning the conduct as “un Malawian”
“I have been here since Monday but I haven’t seen any of these DPP officials who used to frequent MBC/TV, it’s so disheartening and unbelievable that this is how these people have chosen to mourn our president,” said one woman.
“Witchcraft is not only casting evil spells and flying naked at night, this is witchcraft” another woman told Nyasa Times
On Tuesday president Joyce Banda also advised DPP members to mourn Mutharika instead of rushing to the media and blindly announcing allegiance to her People’s party.
