DPP MP faces prosecution after killing man in road accident: ‘Impersonated himself as deputy minister’

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Karonga North West John Bond Kamwambi is facing prosecution after being involved in a road accident in which a man was killed on Saturday.

Ghambi: It’s not me but Kamwambi

Kamwambi was reportedly over speeding at Luwuchi along Karonga-Mzuzu M1 road in Rumphi in the evening.

“The MP vehicle was over speed and after reaching Luwuchi, it hit the man to death as he was trying to cross the road,” said an eye witness

The deceased has been identified as Stain Mnthari, who hailed from village headman Malongo in the area of Senior Chief Wasambo in Karonga district.

However, Kamwambi used a pseudonym to the community by identifying himself as the deputy minister of defence Vincent Ghambi, who is also the MP for Karonga North.

“He bought the coffin and provided the transport,” a member of the community said.

When contacted, Ghambi vehemently denied being involved in the accident and said it was Kamwambi.

“Of course I had a journey y from Lilongwe to Karonga but I did not have any accident but Kamwambi. I called him and he admitted,” said Ghambi.

Effort to talk to Kamwambi proved futile as his mobile phone was off, however, police in Rumphi have also confirmed about the death of the said man.

Malawi has of late been experiencing a rise in road accidents.

Meanwhile, Chitipa South Member of Parliament Werani Chilenga has suggested that some of the road accidents could have been avoided and lives saved if government introduced tougher new road and water transport regulations Parliament passed.

Police officers entrusted with enforcing traffic regulations on the road are mostly accused of corruption and they turn a blind eye to ensure minimum standards are adhered to when bribed.

Even if he was a deputy minister who cares? Why are Malawians so obsessed with titles. So he thinks the life of the victim is cheap just because he is a minister.

Nyasa tell me what has happened to Ghambi after the accident. What charge is he facing and where is he now? If it was an ordinary person there would have been lots of stupid noise and the driver would have been in prison. It is true that the Police are VERY CORRUPT. Even when they catch you red handed they will accept “ya Fanta” and leave you scot free. If we cannot adhere to our own enacted laws then what future is there on the roads Malawi. The nation should know what this so called Hon. MP Impersonating himself as… Read more »

You seem to have something against the so called Ghambi. This article is about a man who impersonated Ghambi after an accident in which a man lost his life, not about Ghambis fucking abilities.Stick to detail. Maybe he fucked your wife, sister, girlfriend. Etc.
