DPP sets aside K5mil for hospital food donations in north Malawi

Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) says it has set aside K5 million to help buy food for hospitals in the north following suspension of provision of food to patients in public hospitals due to budgetary cuts.

Minister of Information Jappie Mhango disclosed this on Thursday in Mzimba when he handed over 200 bags of maize and 10 bags of beans to Mzimba District Hospital.

Mhango said the donation was as a result of President Peter Mutharika’s call to help the needy and less priviledged.

Leonard Sanga, DPP regional governor for the north said it was sad that members of parliament in the region were not forthcoming to help the dire situation in hospitals.

He said the dire situation in public hospitals needed the help of everyone including law makers who represent people.

District Hospital Officer Alinafe Mbewe welcomed the donation describing it as timely.

He said hospital administrators would now concetrate on other similar pressing issues other than food.
