DPP vehicle survives torching in Mzuzu
Suspected ruling People’s Party (PP) supporters nearly torched a one tonne pickup vehicle belonging to the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Mzuzu in the wee hours of Tuesday, Nyasa Times has leant.
The vehicle, a blue Toyota registration number BP 8395, is assigned to the party’s Director of Youth for the northern region Kelvin Chirambo.
Chirambo said he was alerted but the incessant barking of his dogs at around 2 am and when he checked he discovered that there was fire in vehicle.

“When I came out I saw about four people running away being chased by my dogs,” he said.
Police in Mzuzu confirmed receiving a complaint from DPP officials but ruled out sinister motives.
DPP Regional Governor for the north Kenneth Sanga also confirmed the development claiming that he was warned of revenge by unknown people.
“I am not surprised this has happened. That is why we have reported the matter to Police,” Sanga said.
A few days ago skirmishes by DPP supporters at a PP rally in Thyolo left two people dead. A senior Police Officer allegedly bludgeoned to death by DPP for fatally shooting a civilian.
