DPP’s Wa Jeffrey calls Malawi Law Society condemnation as ‘Zachamba’:’Blue Night’ parastatal money

Foul mouthed Secretary General  of the ruling Democrcatic Progressive Party (DPP), Greselder Jeffrey wa Jeffrey has rubished Malawi Law Society for adding its voice to pay back all the money parastatals and other government agencies gave it during its fundraising event called Blue Night recently in Lilongwe, saying it is ‘Zachamba’ [nonsense].

The Law Society joined the chorus of Civil Soviety Organisations who condemned the donations as  worste forms of misuse  and abuse of public funds.

“The  issue concerning management of public funds is an issue of law .Such being the case, the Society feels  duty bound to register its protestation in the strongest terms possible, the blatant misuse and abuse of public funds by parastatal organizations and other government agencies,” reads a statement  signed by airperson Khumbo Soko.

But Wa Jeffrey says the Law Siciety calls is a waste of time and complete nonsense.

“Zimenezo ndiye timati zachamba [That is nonsense],” said Wa Jeffrey.

She said Law Society should name party officials who forced parastatals and Councils to donate to ‘Blue Night’.

Presidential aide and ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice president for Central Region Dr Hetherwick Ntaba is also on record to have called the demand by Mzuzu-based Youth and Society (YAS) executive director Charles Kajoloweka for DPP to pay back the money or institutions that are yet to pay the money to cancel the transactions as utterly “rubbish” .

“That’s rubbish!” said Ntaba in reaction to the demands.

Ntaba, who was chairperson for the fundraising event, argued that parastatals and councils that made pledges or paid the money did so willingly, insisting “whether likes it or not” DPP will not pay back.

“The institutions that gave out the money did that willingly, voluntarily, nobody forced them and they haven’t come back to us to demand back their money. So, there is no need to pay back that money,” said Ntaba.

In a statement Kajoloweka describes government’s move as irrational abuse of resources and warns of unspecified consequences if the money is not given back.

the “abuse of resources”, according to Kajoweka, follows a spate of abuse and corruption scandals that have rocked parastatal institutions.

“A fresh case in point is the siphoning of K10 million from Lilongwe Water Board by the DPP in February 2016 through a similar ‘Blue Night’ scheme. It is also not long ago when the First Lady Getrude Mutharika invaded the National Aids Commission [NAC] and siphoned K5 million for her private activities.

“In view of this ‘Blue Night’ incursion on the public purse, we, therefore, make the following demands: That the Democratic Progressive Party must within 14 days [by 15th August] pay back the money to all parastatal institutions which were siphoned in the name of ‘Blue Night’ fundraising dinner,” reads the statement in part.

Something terrible is trailing the blue camp. Someone who was begging for assistance can not be as blatant as Ntaba and DPP Secretary General have been of late. Wait. This is gonna blown up soon.

I don’t think the issue is about PAC here, we are talking of the party that is busy plundering our resources. Jeff and Ntaba must know that they don’t own Malawi. One day they will face the music.

By the way, Why did PAC meet Chakwera alone to discuss 2019 elections? Why did they conduct their discussions in hiding? Kodi pa half-time, REFEREE amakalowa mu dressing room ya team ina? How can the other team behave towards that kind of referee? PAC is giving false hopes to chakwera and this shall make him to have difficulties to accept a loss in 2019. PAC should be careful not to create that king of anticipation. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!

PAC must invite all parties when discussing national issues. Amakagawana masikono ku MCP eti!!! Shupiti

Khoropa is this comment in line with the article? Anyway get back to the PAC meeting. PAC is doing consultations with stakeholders including government. The consultations are not about 2019 General elections but on Local Government Act that governs district and town councils. Get things right
