Carrying memories of the defeat they suffered at the hands of the same opponents during last year’s final, Civonets came in vengeance, forcing the female cops from Area 30 to fight from behind in the first quarter which ended 11-all.

However, the lady servants started losing the plot in the second quarter, in which they gave away easy balls to the opponents and missed some baskets.

The Eagles led 22-20 at half time. Things got worse for Civonets in the third quarter, which ended 35-28 in favour of the defending champions.

Much as the female servants tried to come back in the last quarter, the damage had already occurred as the cops went on to win the tie 35-39.

Eagles coach Madano Tepetheya congrulated her girls for a job well done.

“I’m very happy with the performance of our girls. There was good coordination between our old and new players.

“Our strategy was to play a fast attacking game and catch the opponents off guard and the girls managed to do that,” he said.

His counterpart White Mlilima conceded defeat but said he could not fault his players.

“We have lost but I cannot fault my girls. We are building a team and we have some new young players, whom we are blending with the old timers,” said Mlilima.

Playing in the third place playoff, Mafco Soldiers defeated Green Sisters by 19 baskets to 13.
