Eagles rue lost points as Red Lions pull single point from Lilongwe: Malawi TNM Super League

TNM Super League current league leaders Blue Eagles FC have expressed regret over the lost points in their opening three second round games that have seen the Malawi Police Service (MPS) outfit collecting just three points out of a possible nine.

The Eagles finished the first round on top with 32 points from 15 games, three points clear of their closes pursuers Silver Striker.

However, the Lexten Kachama boys should count themselves lucky to remain on the driving seat at this stage, having given away six points in their opening three second round fixtures.

They would have been third on the log table by now had Silver Strikers secured maximum points at the Nankhaka Stadiumon Saturday with Nyasa Big Bullets collecting at least four points in Mzuzu.

The Central Bankers failed to dislodge the cops on the top position after settling for a goal-less draw against the league leaders at Nankhaka before Bullets blew up an opportunity of going top on goal-difference after being held nil-all by Mzuni at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday.

Eagles’ team manager Gabriel Chirwa admitted after the weekend results that his side was lucky to remain on top after giving away some valuable points.

“It’s unfortunate we have not been able to get a result in three games. Had we won all our three second round assignments, we could have been very far. However, we are not that disappointed because we have played against very strong teams. Silver are a very good team and are doing very well just like Mzuni.

“Epac have always been giving us problems so a point against each of these three teams is not that bad. We will do well in our next games,” said Chirwa.

The Eagles are leading the spoils with 35 points from 18 games followed by Mafco with 34 points from the same number of games. Bullets are third with 33 from 19 games, owing to their better goal difference against Silver, who have the same number of points but sitting on a two-game cushion over the ‘people’s team.’

Below are results of all games played over the weekend:

Saturday

Blue Eagles 0 Silver 0, Bullets 0 Moyale Barracks 0, Civo 1 Red Lions 1, Dwangwa United 3 Epac 1, Be Forward Wanderers 4 Karonga United 0.

Sunday
