Escom cuts power at Bingu Stadium over unpaid K4mil bill

Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) on Friday disconnected electricity at the magnificent Chinese built Bingu National Stadium.

The incident happened hours before the facility host the much touted Airtel Top 8 Cup final involving Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers.

BNS Public Relations Officer Ireen Mkoko confirmed the development in an interview with Zodiak Radio.

Mkoko said they owe Escom about K4 million.

She was however optimistic that everything will be sorted out by Saturday afternoon.

According to MKoko, the responsibility to pay bills at the stadium is in the hands of the Ministry of Sports.

“The stadium is under the ministry so the ministry has to do everything” said Mkaka.
