Escom Sisters edge MTL in OG Isaa
Escom Sisters were superior over MTL Queens on Saturday in the OG Issa Southern Region Netball League after beating them 48-35 baskets at Blantyre Youth Centre in a highly contested encounter.
As usual, Mwayi ‘Professor’ Kumwenda led her charges to disconnect power at Maselema (the home of MTL).
The Malawi Queens evergreen shooter was a marvel to watch as she also scored more baskets compared with any shooter during the game.
Escom proved to netball fans why they scooped all the trophies last season by leading in all the quarters.
The electricians played fantastic netball through their hero of the day Kumwenda, Caroline ‘Ayuda’ Mtukule, Bridget Kumwenda, Saludzai Gondwe and Towera ‘Pincord’ Vinkhumbo, who outplayed MTL Queens vast experience shooter Mary ‘Atcheya’ Waya.
Vinkhumbo, who is becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the country, frustrated Waya with her timely marking.
Escom Sisters coach Griffin ‘Zagalo’ Saenda was excited with the outcome of the game.
“We have proved to the nation that we remain a better side in this country. Our focus is to win the remaining of the matches’ inoder to defend our title, “said Saenda, while his counterpart Edith Kaliati only said, “It was not our day, but we promise to bounce back as soon as possible.”
On the other side, MTL tried their best with the likes of young and upcoming winger attacker Thandi Mwale,Chikumbutso Banda, Esther Nkhoma and no nonsense Joanna Kachilika.
Escom still maintain top of the log table with 42 points from 14 games while Bingu Tigresses is coming second with 39 points from 14 games played as well.
Tigresses won 101-15 baskets to Young Gals in their early kickoff match at the same venue.
Bingu were on their own class through Sindi ‘Sniper’ Simutowe, Ellen Chibokho, Beat Kadango and Grace Mwafulirwa who caused headache to Young Gals side.
In another match, Chitakale were hammered by Wooget 74-10 baskets.
