Ex-convict gets mob justice in Ntcheu

An angry mob hstoned to death a 31 year old man, for attempting to rob a local business man at Mnkhwani 2, in Traditional Authority  (T/A) Ganya, in Ntcheu.

The incident happened in the wee hours of Tuesday. The deceased, Merad Bikitoni is said to have broken into one of the hawkers where he found the owner sleeping in the same shop.

Ntcheu police publicist Hastings Chigalu said the deceased demanded cash from the hawker owner who refused to bow down to the demands.

“A fight between the two erupted, but later the deceased found some  space to escape. The shop owner shouted for help,” explained Chigalu.

More villagers woke up, and joined the chase. They managed to catch the suspect and started assaulting and stoning him with bricks and other objects.

Bikitoni, an ex-convict, just released from Ntcheu Prison on August 29, 2018, after serving a 30 months Imprisonment  with Hard Labour for cattle rustling, was pronounced dead at Bwanje health centre.

Postmortem results revealed that death was due to head injuries and internal bleeding.

Merad Bikitoni, hailed from Mnkhwani 2 village, Traditional Authority Ganya, in the district.

This is the first mob justice case to be registered in Ntcheu district for the past two years, thanks to senstisation meetings the Station conducts, preaching the bad side of the same.
