The criminals, who police say are still at large, also snatched two rifles from the police officers.

However, one of the rifles, a K2C serial number K007376, has been recovered so far.

Police have also recovered five rounds of official ammunitions but suspect that the criminals used two bullets from a police firearm and went away with three rounds live bullets.

No. A5517 Sgt. Anthony Mkokho was killed on the scene whereas his partner No. B3060 Constable James Clifford was shot in the head and is admitted to Kamuzu Central Hospital.

Police suspect that a former police officer and three others whose identities (names withheld) were behind the attack. A drivers license and an ATM Card were found in the car used by the criminals.

The criminals attacked the minibus near Kamuzu Central Hospital Roundabout in the administrative capital.

The armed thugs, using BS 6189 Nissan Tilda Soloon–stolen from Isaland Investment and real registration MJ  7494–unexpectedly blocked the minibus and shot at the security officers.

Sgt. Mkokho was killed on the scene while Constable Clifford was shot in the head and is admitted to Kamuzu Central Hospital.

After snatching the cash and upon reaching Chitukuko (Area 47) , they attacked a Nissan Bongo Minibus MH 6100  driven by Gerald Tsogolani.

They shot in the air to scare away passengers and subsequently hijacked the minibus.

The Nissan Bongo minibus was eventually recovered near Majesty Lodge.

Meanwhile, Police have said investigations into the matter have been intensified.

Any armed robbery or crime is a potential threat to national security – especially when the security agents (army or police) are involved and are using official guns. If our govt is serious, they need to take this seriuously. If you cannot control your boys, can you seriously prevent a Coup?

I want to agree with the possible link of too many (unregulated) refugees & the increasing crime levels in Mlw. Mlw is the only country on earth that allows these refugees to literaly do what they want. Some of them ex-soldiers, hardcore criminals, terorists, al-queda, al-shabab, boko haram (wth lots of £ and $) are acquiring assets: land, houses, registering companies, etc. And we watch as our resources are being siphoned to Pakistan, Rwanda, Burundi, Nigeria, etc. Our children (many of them less educated for obvious reasons) are slowly becoming tenants or slaves to foreign nationals. Most of our national… Read more »

WE are living in a failed state. A country where the president has become an absentee whore master who is only interested in collecting his salary and allowances. He needs to come out and address Malawians or better yet parliament on the state of security and economy in this country. The prime minister can not be left alone to be giving political advice for which he is not an expert. Address the causes of the security lapse in this country. Why the police are involved in serious crimes. Remember the fish rots from the head. DPP syndicate at work to… Read more »
