Most expensive netballer in Malawi: GK Anabel Phiri unveiled at Kukoma Diamonds

Former Lameck Queens Goal Keeper Anabel Phiri is officially unveiled at Kukoma Diamonds in front of Diamonds officials and sponsors Kukoma Manufacturing Company bosses   at their offices in Blantyre.

Anabel, 24 years , who was featured on Sunday during Kukoma Diamonds against Alliance Capital Stars in which they won 51-30 had  a few words, saying it is “a dream to be here at Kukoma Diamonds” before being handed her new kit.

The  most expensive netballer in Malawi, having being bought at the prize of K600.000  hailed Kukoma Diamonds  fans, players and officials for a warm welcome and described the club ‘a big netball club in Malawi’.

Kukoma Diamonds General Secretary Chimwemwe Bakali said they were impressed with Anabel performance and wished her the best the time she will be at Kukoma Diamonds.

Bakali, who was non committal to say the duration of Anabel’s contract, said Kukoma Diamonds is geared for the league campaign and cups.

“We are trying our best to beef up our squad because all we want is to win the League and all the cups this season,” said Bakali.

Anabel will for the meantime be handled with the mantle to take Caroline ‘Ayuda’ Ngwira’s position, as she is expectant.

Kukoma Diamonds Manager Veronica Nkhoma was on cloud nine and described the signing of Anabel as a step further to strengthen  their squad.

She assured the club of massive support if they will continue winning trophies.

“We are very proud of this team, and let me assure them that we will continue supporting them avoid they continue winning more trophies,” she said.

Anabel has become the most Malawian expensive netballers followed by Caroline Ngwira, who was bought from Tigresses to Diamonds at the prize of K350, 000 in 2008.
