FAM names 34 players for Malawi camp, no friendly before Mali match

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has released a list of 34 players to start camping on Sunday for the Africa Cup of Nations group qualifiers against Mali on September 6 and Ethiopia on September 10.

FAM has included three new faces Saidi Ntekema of Mafco, Bullet Victor Limbani, Azama Tigers’ Malumbo Gondwe, Red Lions Kumbani Mwembeni and a surprise call up on Bullets Mussa Manyenje.

However, a joint top goal scorer in the TNM Super League Deus Nkutu of Mafco has also been sidelined again.

Former Flames captain Moses Chavula has also been sidelined as Mighty Wanderers heir apparent on the left-back Francis Mulimbika gets his second chance to take over from the  veteran.

Meanwhile, FAM General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said the team would not play a friendly in preparations for the two games because of time factor.

“I don’t think they will have a friendly game because its difficult for us to get a team particularly from West Africa in the wake of Ebola disease,” he said.
