FAM names Msuku women football coach, call squad

The Malawi national women’s football team regroups on Christmas day to start preparations for the 2012 CAF African women championship first leg encounter against Zambia on the weekend of 14-15 January in Lusaka.

According to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM),the team will be led this time by Mafco coach Temwa Msuku, who has impressed over the years at club level.

Msuku has replaced Richard Chipungu who led the girls earlier this year at the Cosafa women championship in Zimbabwe and will deputise Msuku for this assignment.

National women football team called into camp

The 23 member squad has the bulk of the country’s top women’s football side DD Sunshine who did well at the Cosafa tournament with some new faces in the likes of Chimwemwe Madise, Eliza David, Hannah Moses, Chisomo Mixon, Kawanangwa Kamanga, and Lyness Mbera among others.

Captain of the side Chisomo Kazisonga whose presence was greatly missed at the Cosafa tournament due to injury returns to the squad alongside seasoned campaigners Tabitha Chawinga, Linda Kasenda,Sungeni Msiska,Ratipher Malunjika and Lina Chipili.

Also making a return to the side is inspirational goalkeeper Logges Zidana of DD Sunshine senior who was sidelined due to injury.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda says the girls will go into camp as soon as christmas so  that they prepare thoroughly for the crucial first leg match against Zambia.

“By now they should have been in camp but due to other problems,we failed to do that. We are happy that all arrangements with the National Sports Council have been finalised and the girl will be in camp finally” he said.

Goalkeepers: Chimwemwe Madise, Logges Zidana and Thoko Mwase.

Defenders: Charity Banda, Lina Chipili,Chisomo Kazisonga, Violet Chihana, Tisadane Bokosi,Eliza David, Hannah Moses and Chisomo Mixon.

Midfielders:  Mwai Ziba, Nnia Lizi,Ratipher Malunjika, Ringo Dyce Phiri, Rose Gondwe,Laitta Magombo and Sungeni Msiska.

Strikers: Linda Kasenda,Tabitha Chawinga, Kawanangwa Kamanga,Lyness Mbera and Ruth Tambala.

Technical panel: Temwa Msuku (Head coach), Richard Chipungu (Assistant coach), Siveria Chalira (Team manager) and  Hilda Phiri Team doctor.
