FDH Bank has described as blatantly untrue rumours that fired Minister of Agriculture George Chaponda, currently embroiled in a maize procurement scam, had over K800 million as current balance in his account.
Social media was abuzz on Wednesday that Chaponda had over MWK 598 000 000.00 in his account with First Merchant Bank and MWK 873 453 972.13 in his FDH bank.
The rumours came barely hours after a raid by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Police found over $58 000 cash stashed in suitcases at Chaponda’s residence.
Through its official Facebook page, FDH Bank Malawi, the bank said that the rumours were unfounded.
