FDH First Discount House donates K2M to ICAM lake conference

FDH First Discount House, a subsidiary of FDH Financial Holdings Limited on Thursday donated K2 million to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) for their 2020 annual lake conference slated for next week in Mangochi.

Speaking when presenting the cheque in Blantyre FDH Head of Marketing and Communications Levie Nkunika said First Discount House, as a homegrown leading money market investment service provider sees ICAM as a strategic partner hence the donation.

“Most of ICAM members are our investment customers and therefore the sponsorship provides an opportunity for further interaction and engagement to learn their changing requirements and also to say thank you for their support,” said Nkunika.

“Further to that FDH Group and First Discount House stand for promotion and facilitation of growth through financial investments solutions. The ICAM conference also aims to promote excellence and growth in the accountancy profession. Therefore, we saw it fit to support such an undertaking as it promotes businesses and in turn promotes economic growth in the country,” added Nkunika.

He also said the conferences’ them ‘Prudent Financial Management-Key to Business Resilience in the Midst of Covid-19’ is very important not only to the financial management sector but Malawi at large as there is need to pool all efforts to achieve the much needed economic empowerment with or without Covid-19.

Receiving the donation, ICAM Chief Executive Officer Dr. Francis Chinjoka Gondwe thanked First Discount House for the donation saying it will go a long way in making the conference a success.

“This conference is very significant because as you are aware we have been affected by Covid-19 and we are looking at the business because there are companies that have managed to do well and others who did not do well, so we need to look at both scenarios and learn from them,” said Chinjoka.

He said the conference which will be held at Sun and Sand Holiday Resort in Mangochi from 12 to 15 November 2020 will be opened by the Minister of Finance Felix Mlusu and is expected to attract almost 700 participants but was quick to say that Covid-19 measures will be strictly be adhered to.
