Fire guts Blantyre market

Fire has gutted one of the biggest markets in the country, the Blantyre market, the fifth destructive fire in the country in the past five days.

Fire has gutted part of Blantyre Market destroying property worth millions of kwachas

Blantyre city council spokesperson Anthony Kasunda said it was too early to establish the cause of the fire last night and the cost of the loss.

“The police and the fire brigade are working on the cause of the fire,” said Kasunda.

The fire has extensively damaged the irish potato section, burning to ashes some stalls and merchandise.

The fire razed down the market just weeks after minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi alleged the opposition were planning to burn markets in the country to cause anarchy and lawlessness, prompting some people in social media circles to allege this was a state sponsored fire to look as if the opposition is indeed starting the anarchy and lawlessness as alleged by government.

We don’t have to look very far. This is Dausi’s work. After all he warned us there would be burning of markets throughout the country and he spiced his threat by accusing HRDC and opposition of hatching such a plot. Dausi always thinks he is lecturing to kids. Typical of the pre 1993 MCP.
