First Couple to host Malawi Queens for ‘Mapwevupwevu’
Following heroic wins over renowned sides such as England and Jamaica at the 2016 Fast Five World Netball Series, the Malawi National Netball team, the Queens have earned praise from the country’s first couple President Peter Mutharika and First Lady Gertrude Mutharika.

In a statement signed by Presidential Press Secretary Mgeme Kalilani, the first couple has since promised to host the Queens soon.
“We are thrilled by the Queens performance at the just ended Fast Five world netball series where we managed to finish on third position having beaten strong teams like England and Jamaica. As such we would like to thank the team for being patriotic enough to reclaim our position in Africa after edging out our longtime African rivals South Africa.
“Apart from being patriotic, the team embraced the other two pillars of development integrity and hard work which are key to success. This is not a mini achievement and as such, we would soon be hosting the team at our palace to show appreciation for the historic achievement made,” reads part of the statement.
Meanwhile, the Queens are back in the country from Melbourne, Australia. They arrived through Kamuzu International Airport around 1230 in the afternoon before proceeding to Capital hotel where they were hosted to a luncheon by their official sponsors Airtel Malawi.
The best gift would be state of the art netball court for the girls. its pathetic to see some of the courts these girls use
