First Lady’s show of faith: Gertrude Mutharika joins CCAP Women’s Guild prayers

Malawi’s First Lady Gertrude Mutharika joined thousands of worshippers on Sunday as she took part in prayers marking the annual gathering of the CCAP Women’s Guild — one of the country’s largest church congregations.

The prayers formed part of the grand finale of this year’s conference, held at Lingadzi CCAP in Lilongwe, bringing together an extraordinary turnout of over 2,000 women from the Mpando Presbytery.

The conference, which kicked off on Friday, is drawing to a close today under the powerful theme “Seek Peace and Righteousness” — a message that has resonated deeply with the thousands who gathered for the multi-day spiritual event.

The First Lady’s presence at the milestone gathering is likely to be seen as a significant show of support for the church and its army of devoted followers, as the CCAP Women’s Guild continues to be one of the most influential religious movements in the country.

With prayers, worship and fellowship dominating proceedings throughout the weekend, today’s closing ceremony marks the culmination of what has been billed as one of the year’s biggest gatherings of its kind — a powerful display of faith and unity among Malawian women.
