Five star display by Wanderers

Mighty Be Forward Wanderers Sunday displayed a five star performance when they hammered Mafco 3-0 during the TNM super league match played at Civo stadium in Lilongwe.

Wanderers have mantained a 100 per cent record of win four game in a row and have moved to second position on the log with 12 points equalling Leaders Red Lions but differ on aggregate.

A new signing for Nomads from Azam Tigers, Yamikani Chester was top of the bill and he combined well with veteran midfielder Joseph Kamwendo. The two mounted more pressure on Mafco’s central defence marshalled by Ben Mbewe and ably assisted by Stain Malata.

The Nomads quickly settled down in the first few minutes of the game and it only took them seven minutes to find the back of the net through defender Lucky Malata header from a second corner kick taken by Kamwendo.

Mafco nearly equalised 14 minutes later through striker Tony Mbulu whose 35 metre drive hit the cross bar beating Keeper Richard Chipuwa but a rebound was surprising wasted by Saidi Mtekama from close range.

The soldiers tried to bring life into the game through Ranken Mwale and he gave Wanderers defencers Malata and Harry Nyirenda tough time.

The match was somehow characterised by so many stoppages as the play was

punctuated by rough plays and referee Brighton Gwiricho was failing to stump out his authority at times.

Ten minutes break, Kamwendo put Wanderers into the lead after Chester had received a ball inside Mafco’s half and he rushed with the ball on the right side of the northern goal out pacing Chikondi Maloya before releasing a killer pass to on coming Kamwendo who calmly planted home.

Two teams went to recess with Lali Lubani men in the lead 2-0.

Chester nearly claimed a third four minutes into second half when his hard and low hit the upright as Mafco’s custodian Frank Kasiyamo failed to save it.

In the 55th minute, Chester redeemed himself to claim third goal for Wanderers when he volleyed in a pass from Kamwendo beating rooted Mafco keeper Kasiyamo.

The remaining the play was dominated by Wanderers, Mafco were just chasing their shadows and could not find a consolidation goal as Chipuwa stood firm in goals.

Wanderers Team Manager, Steve Madeira admitted that Wanderers play more organised game in Lilongwe unlike the Dwangwa game where they won 1-0.

He said the players responded positively to calls to up their game, this helped them to create more chances and get more goals.

” Every player is ready and fighting for the team. We want to encourage them to keep up the fighting spirit for the games to come,” Madeira added.

” We have lost to a better and organised side. Look at the goals they scored we can not blame anyone. We will try to rectify our problems and see how we will move forward,” Mafco coach, Temwa Msuku pointed out.

He said it is a long way to go, there are more games to come to fight for points and hope his team will do better in next games to come.

Nomads is the first team this season to bang six points ways from home.
