Four people have died in separate incidences in the Northern Region after committing suicide due to family problems this week, Police has confirmed.

In Mzuzu a 40 year-old-man Syford Ngulube of Samuel Maliro village, Traditional Authority Mmbelwa in Mzimba District fatally hanged himself with a rope in his bedroom following a domestic quarrel with his wife whom he had chased.

While in Rumphi district a 28 year-old Kondwani Nyirenda of Kasimba Village, Traditional Authority Mwakhunikira in the district also fatally hanged himself on a tree at his house after disagreements with his wife.

In Chitipa a 42 year-old Horribin Munyenyembe of Village Kasuntha, Traditional Authority Ntharile hanged himself on a tree after he was caught red handed with a woman having sexual intercourse.

Similarly, a 23 year-old -man Benson Sichali Junior died after he hanged himself inside his house due to family problems yesterday. Sichali hails from Village Mwangolera, Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga district.

Police have since expressed concerns over these suicides describing them as “very worrisome situation”.

“Police has been involving the clergy to preach against this practice because it is a sin in the sight of God. We have been conducting meetings with the faith community because those people who kill themselves belong to some of their denominations and it is easier for religious leaders to reach them through the word of God” Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer Norrah Chimwala.
