Scheduled for August 27 and 28, 2016 at ABC and Civo basketball courts in Lilongwe, the All Stars tourney will involve select teams from Basmal’s three Zones of Northern Zone Basketball League (Nozobal), Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) and Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal).

Each of the zones is expected to have representatives in Women, Rising Stars and the Senior Men categories.

Sozobal are the reigning champions in Senior Men category while Cezobal are defending champions for both Women and Rising Stars’ categories.

Unveiling this year’s programme at a press briefing in Lilongwe over the weekend, Basmal general secretary Edgar Ng’ong’ola said they were expecting a tough and exciting tournament with the hiked stakes from G.Y Imports & Exports, who pumped in K2 million into last year’s tournament.

“As you have heard for yourselves from the sponsors, the sponsorship amount has been almost tripled from last year. This means the competition will be tougher and exciting as every team will be gunning for the top prizes.

“As Basmal, we are very grateful to G.Y Imports and Exports for their passion in the development of Basketball. They have been our major partners in as far as development of the game of basketball is concerned and we really cherish the good relationship existing between the association and the company,” said Ng’ong’ola.

G.Y Imports and Exports sales and marketing manager Simon Chadeleka said they were always excited as a company to watch basketball stars showcasing their best skills.

“As a Malawian company, we are always excited to see local basketball stars displaying their best skills on the court. Besides that, our managing director Mr Griffin Kalua is an ardent basketball follower and is geared to see the game reaching greater heights,” said Chadeleka.

Winners of the Men Seniors are set to walk away with K650,000 with the Women and Rising Stars’ categories expected to cart home K500,000 and K250,000 respectively.
