Gaba ruled out of Malawi vs Lesotho with injury: Swini unavailable

Malawi international striker Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango has been ruled out of Saturday’s international friendly match against Lesotho at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Gabadihno Mhango : Limped out of training

South African based Gabadinho, who helped Bidvest Wits win a double last season—the Premier Soccer League (PSL)  and MTN8—is currently serving a six-match ban for spitting at an opponent in a league match.

However, he picked up a muscle strain in training and is now a major doubt for the international friendly.

Flames team manager James Sangala said: “Gaba was limping, meaning he was feeling pain.  It’s not clear so far if he is out for Saturday. We will make the decision Friday after training but he has slim chances of passing a fitness test.”

Meanwhile, Sangala also disclosed that Mozambique based goalkeeper Charles Swini will not be available for the game.

The match, which will be Malawi’s Flames third at the newly-built stadium, comes four months after the Flames last played at the venue against Comoros in African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

In between, the Flames have been on the road playing international friendlies against Morocco Under-23 and Togo during Morocco training camp.

Malawi then drew one-all against Tanzania in another friendly match.

Before this match, Malawi also drew against Kenya in another away friendly match as the team was preparing for African Nations Championship qualifier against Madagascar.

Malawi last played Lesotho at the 2016 Cosafa Cup where the Crocodiles beat the Flames for the first time in 35 years.
