Gabadinho withdraws from Malawi squad over school committments
Big Bullets red-hot striker Gabadihno Mhango has ruled himself out of the Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cup as he is expected to sit for his form two terminal test at Chimwankhunda Secondary School.
The young and upcoming player, who has taken the 2012-2013 season by storm said he had excused himself from the national duty as he will be busy preparing for examinations.
“I would have loved to go with the team but l have to put my education first,” Mhango told Nyasa Times.
But Malawi coach Kinnah Phiri wants Gaba to skip the examinsations and be on national duty, saying “tt is not national examination.”
But Gabadinho says he will not skip the examinations, insisting “this time around I will priotise my education, let the coach and everyone else understand my situation.”
He has received backing from Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu who saidhe is happy with Gabadinho’s decision.
With the absence of Mhango it means Flames coach has to search for another striker to beef up his striking force which has the likes of Rodrick Gonani, Green Harawa, Gastin Simkonda.
The Flames, guests in the tournament, landed themselves in group C alongside Rwanda, Eritrea and Zanzibar.
