Big Bullets FC hot-shot Gabbadinho Mhango has been crowned Malawi best player of the year in the just ended 2012/2013 TNM Super League.
The announcement was made Friday night during a TNM prize presentation ceremony held at Bingu International Conference Centre in Malawi capital, Lilongwe.
The striker, who finished third in the league with 14 goals, was presented with a K120 000 cash prize and a miniature.
“It means a lot to me,” said the Chichiri Secondary School Form 2 student.
He added: “I also want to thank my fellow Big Bullets players and the technical panel for their continuous encouragements.”
The pintsized player, currently in camp with the national team in readiness of the away World Cup encounter against Namibia, said the award was a huge lift for his personal confidence.
The young soccer star also cleared misconceptions over his real name saying he was not ‘Gabbadinho’ but Frank Hellings Mhango but he accepts it as nickname in football circles.
Other awards were presented to Owen Chaima of Big Bullets as the Best Goalkeeper, Mecium Mhone of Blue Eagles was voted Most Improved Player with Silver Strikers’ captain Lucky Malata getting the Best Defender award.
The Best Midfielder award was scooped by Kelvin Malikebu of MAFCO while Best Technical Panel and Best Team Management went to Big Bullets and MAFCO respectively.
