Gani scored 39 points to emerge winner in men category while Carol Banda won the championship in women section with 28 points.

Bega Kaingwe and Mike Kalulu came second and third positions, respectively. While Roza Mbilizi came second in women category with 26 points.

Banda, who has largely played second fiddle to Mbilizi, was visibly on cloud nine when she was declared winner in their category.

“It feels good to be the winner. As much as I didn’t expect to win, I prepared to play and started off well and my shots were going straight. It is at this point that I realized that I would win the championship as most participants were struggling with the scourging  sun,” said Banda, who just like other winners in both categories, received TNM E-wimax internet routers.

This was the second time for the country’s premier mobile service provider to host golfers at Mlambe golf course under the sponsorship of Smart Data, TNM”s bouquet of mobile internet services.

The company’s Chief Commercial Officer Dan Makata said the individual stablefold tee-off was TNM’s continued commitment to engaging the corporate entities and individual customers using their Smart Data.

Makata said their goal is add value to their customers’ lifestyle by engaging them in a golf tournament by the lake every summer.

“Apart from having fun, TNM uses golf tournaments to interact with its customers to promote its data products and services.

“The Smart Data revolution that TNM is pioneering in Malawi is about providing customers with a convenient, high-speed mobile internet.

“As such, we take golf as an opportunity to share our business interests to our customers during the competition. So we make golfers feel relaxed while appreciating our products and services,” he said.

According to Makata, TNM is offering Malawians affordable smart data products and services through its combined platform as mobile data provider and Internet Services Provider (ISP).

Saturday’s tournament attracted about 107 golfers. The company has hosted similar Smart Data-powered tournaments at Gymkana in Zomba, Nchalo in Chikwawa and Blantyre.

“We want to make this tournament an annual event and we hope to be here next year. Today’s overwhelming participation has really encouraged us. Mlambe Golf Course takes up 58 golfers but look we are over 100 golfers this entails  that we are on track and our customers should expect more tournaments,” said Makata.
