Ghost workers delay salaries for public works program beneficiaries
Salaries for Mbelwa District Council Public Works Program have been delayed for two months as the council is flushing out ghost workers.
District Commissioner for Mbelwa District Council Thomas Chirwa said Mzimba north has been hit hard with the ghost worker syndrome.
“We are flushing out 200 ghost workers in Mzimba north alone,” he said.
There are over 700 public works program in Mzimba north whilst the whole Mzimba has 16000 beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries get K14400 every two works after working on road maintenance or reaforestation projects among others.
