Gospel artists, woman killed after bus, minibus crash

A gospel artist  Jonathan Gopani,  a member of Adams Familly Band, and an unknown number of people died on Wednesday when the National Bus Company bus was involved in an accident with a minibus On Makata Road near Blantyre Water Board , in the commercial city Blantyre.

Gopani, who was driving a hiace registration number BN 3470 from Limbe to Ndirande died on the spot with a lady whose identity is not yet known died during the morning incident.

The injured were rushed to Queens Elizabeth Central Hospital while bodies were taken to Hospital mortuary.

According to assistant Supretendant for Southern Region Nicholas Gondwa, who confirmed Gopani’s death, the Bus was coming from its headqurters at Makata heading to Limbe.

The Bus registration number BP 8568 was tyring to avoid a cycling who was drunk and rammed into a minibus which had carried fruits and fish traders from Limbe going  to Ndirande Township.

“The driver may have tried to swerve to avoid killing a cyclict,” Gondwa told Nyasa Times.

Gondwa said that there were 6 women and 8 men in a minbus. Out of these, 11 were seriously injured while 2 suistained minor injuries.

The precise number of those who have died so far is unknown.
