Gospel Music Icon Thoko Katimba Pens Chakwera to Free Chamba Convict

Gospel icon Thoko “Anaphi” Katimba has written to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera asking him to pardon a Blantyre based teen Mussa John who was convicted of possessing Cannabis sativa locally known as Chamba.

The award winning music icon Katimba made the plea on Thursday after High Court Judge Vikochi Chaima in Blantyre reduced Mussa’s jail term from 8-years to 3-years imprisonment.

“As a nation particularly the youths, we are crying and begging you to act within your stipulated powers to pardon the young boy MUSSA JOHN who has been sent to prison for reasons better known to the prosecutor and Judges,” wrote Katimba in an open letter to Chakwera posted on his official Facebook page.

Katimba further said: “Your Excellency, I am not in any way condoning lawlessness because “a crime is a crime” regardless of who commits it, BUT SELECTIVE JUSTICE IS EQUALLY EVIL and that’s why we are standing against it without fear.”

In related development, celebrated hip-hop artist Fredokiss born as Penjani Kalua has organised ‘Free Mussa’ protests aimed at forcing President Chakwera to pardon the convicted teen.

“We are planning a Youth Parade. A Solidarity walk to display our stand against Selective Justice.

This one is for John Mussa,” said the Ghetto King Fredokiss in one of his Facebook posts adding: “We will parade and deliver the letter to the Father of the Nation at Sanjika palace.”

Mussa was convicted and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment in June this year a legal action did not satisfy the general public, arguing that some people who committed offences of similar nature got lenient penalties.

  1. If you criminalize marijuana you might as well criminalize all vegetables and green leafs. Let’s see how human beings will survive after that. You can’t be arresting people over stuff that God created and that naturally grows. If you are arresting people over weed because it causes mental health issues why are you not arresting those brewing, distilling and selling beer/alcohol? Liver failure is any less serious than mental issues??? Alcohol kills and ganja doesn’t. You don’t have to have a medical college degree to realize that! Make this shit make sense! The British really brainwashed us!

  2. Decriminalize marijuana! For how long shall we entertain this foolishness of basking in and embracing archaic and colonial laws? Marijuana and its possession shouldn’t be a reason anyone should go to jail for. Not even for a day, for that matter, should one be incarcerated! . Civilizational retardedness or retardation is a contributive factor to a continuation of the laws. Wake up Africans!!!! Don’t continue stupidity that was imposed on you by foreigners!!!! ALSO- Lawyers, judges and the speaker of the house remove and stop wearing those white and stupid looking hats that the British influenced us to wear. It looks lame to wear them and be looking like someone is living 16th century.

  3. Yes am in total support of Mussa parade in pursuance for his immediate release. How can courts make such selective justice? Somebody had the whole field of chamba but only fine with 1,000,000 kwacha and another one caught with chamba at airport only K80,000 fine. Yet mwana uyu was found at somebody’s house in other words it was not found in his possession but at a house where he just went for a chat, is this fair? Let this child be released unconditionally. Kodi chikuvuta ndi chiyani kagwira mwini nyumba where chambacho chinapezekamo? If he/she run away let his/her relatives apprehended that’s it. So am in agreement with Thoko as well Penjani sikuti bwana President mwalowerera ntchito za ma court ayi koma it is better to summon those judges even the prosecutor to ask them how they are administering this case because it is making no sense at all as matters keeps unfolding. Nobody should be arrested at a house where he went to chat and inside it found a dead body so you claim kuti amene anakachezayu or amadutsa ndi amene anapha munthuyu no way!

  4. Kikkkkkkk O thoko hahahahahahaa mpaka inuyo ndithu mwafika pamenepa poti mpakana kuikila kumbuyo moyo umene mwana mukumunenayu nagtidi ndi mwanatu kuti azipezeka ndi Chamba? Mmalo moti tithandize kuthetsa this young men to be doing such kind of business? I guess you are the beneficiary of this Chamba, stop using ana ang’onoang’ono kukutumikilani kuzinthu zoipa zomwe zingamaononge moyo wawo! This is nonsense! You think it’s something that we as Malawi we should clap hands for this? If this can be taken simple as you are thinking, how many young men will be doing this nonsense? You are a gospel singer but I think for business not serving God. Repent! We should not condone this demonic acts in our young men!
