In Zimbabwe, the “Bola Kusache” and “Ndiyima Pachulu” rapper will perform at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) on the week of April 28 and in Swaziland at the Bushfire festival end May.

The HIFA is one of Africa’s largest international arts festivals which encompasses five principal disciplines: theatre, music, dance, fine art, and poetry.

The Bushfire is Swaziland’s internationally acclaimed music and arts festival that celebrates creative expression whilst promoting social responsibility, stimulating the economy and drawing talent and tourists from across Africa and around the world.

The rapper said he was excited and looking forward to represent Malawi at the two international carnivals.

Gwamba will be appearing at the two festivals courtesy of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) as their Malawian Safeguard Young People (SYP) programme ambassador.

He will be on tour with Botswana’s rapper Zeus, Lesotho’s Stlofa, Swaziland’s KrTC, Zambian Kaliwo, Zimbabwean Brian and The Dogg from Namibia, who are also UNFPA SYP ambassadors in their respective countries.

In related news, the award-winning artist is expected to leave Malawi for South Africa on 17 April to attend a five-day writing/recording workshop in Johannesburg from 18 to 24 April.

According to a letter from UNFPA, seen by Nyasa Showbiz, while in Johannesburg, Gwamba and the seven other artists are expected to record two tracks as a group. Each artist will also record their solo songs.

“During the 5 days we will be reviewing the lyrics and you will be recording your songs including the performance tracks; we will record one song per artist and other two songs together,” reads the letter signed by UNFPA SYP regional coordinator Renata Tallarico.

This will be the second time for Gwamba to work with the African music stars after their first collabo that came out in December. The song is a UNFPA theme song titled “We Will” and addresses issues of gender-based violence, human rights and the girl child education.
