Health workers to hold protests in all cities and districts across the country: “We want working conditions revised.”

Health workers across the country will hold demonstrations this Thursday to protest government’s failure to provide final feedback on their working conditions revision.

Fronline health workers:

This is according to a press release which the National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (Nonm) and Physicians Assistants Union of Malawi (Paun) have jointly issued today.

“Today marks two days after the 26th April 2024 agreed date by the Secretary for Health to provide NONM and PAUM the final feedback to our long awaited agreed upon conciliatory agreement action points…

“This is the agreement that was signed by NONM, PAUM, and the Ministry of Health facilitated by the Malawi Human Rights Commission under good faith from all parties,” it reads in part.

Nonm and Paum say they convened an emergency meeting on Friday where the resolution to conduct the demonstration was mapped out.

“After a thorough discussion and legal consultation with full exhaustion of all due processes, NONM and PAUM have resolved to the following;

“To conduct peaceful demonstrations in all cities and districts across the country on 2nd May, 2024 from 9am.

“To deliver petitions to all city and district councils of Malawi requesting an immediate action and effecting of our conciliation agreements by Government through Ministry of Health,” the statement spells out.
