An HIV positive sex attacker, who defiled seven girls one after another on the same day, has been convicted for a lengthy period of 21 years by the Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Court.

Paul Bingala, 36, sexually attacked the girl aged between six and eleven on 11th July in Lilongwe.  He  defiled the kids one after another after he had invited them to his house.

The incident was reported to Police by one of the concerned parents after noticing that her daughter was facing difficulties to walk and after undressing her it was discovered she had sexually infected disease.

The security guard pleaded guilty to defiling all the seven girls and was convicted on his own plea.

Bingala defiled his victims without using protection and  girls are yet to be tested for HIV as authorities are waiting for the three months window period to lapse.

The convict is also being treated for gonorrhoea and the girls were also diagnosed with gonorrhoea.

Sentencing, High Court Judge Chifundo Kachale, who heard the matter at the Magistrate before he was promoted, noted that the behaviour of the convict should not be tolerated by a law court and deserved the maximum sentence to serve as deterrent to other rapists.

The judge also indicated that the psychological trauma of the incident will keep on hovering in the minds of the children therefore affecting their social life for the rest of their lives.

The judge therefore sentenced Bingala to a maximum sentence of defilement and rape cases of 21 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour.

Justice Kachale ignored Bingala’s mitigation that he looks after his old father and children.

Central Region Police Prosecution Officer Superintendent Denis Chipao said he was “pleased” with an indeterminate sentence for public protection because of the ‘horrific’ nature of the attack.

Bingala hails from Kalimanjira Village Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu District.
