Holy Cross Ambassadors increased their chances of their quest to qualify for the top flight TNM Super League when they beat Warm Heart Bullets 3-1 during their midweek of Malawi’s second tier football show, the Chipiku Stores Central Region Football Association League.
Their hitman Beston Jimu claimed his hat-trick to take his tally of goals to 26 and maintain as the leading scorer. His closest rival is Mphatso Filimoni of Msundwe United at 16 goals — a 10 goal difference.
Kennie Mvalo of TN Stars has 15 goals, 14 for Jowardo Salimu (KB Youth), 12 for Jimmy Chipokosa (Mbavi United), 11 for Patrick Chigwenya (Kasungu Police) and 10 for Olembe Macheso (Airborne Rangers).
Support Battalion are second with 36 points, tying with 3rd-placed Tiyuni Stars, who drew 0-0 with Civo Youth on Thursday.
Masters Security Services are 4th with 35 points while Nambuma are 5th with 34 points.
Other results on Thursday were Kasungu Police 4-0 Namitete Young Rangers, Ndawula United 5-1 Wimbe United, Kamuzu Barracks Youth 4-0 Dowa United.
Dedza Young Soccer, who were relegated from Malawi’s top flight TNM Super League after their debut appearance last season, are struggling in the Chipiku League and they have been pushed to position 11. They have 27 points from 17 games in which they won seven, drew five and lost five.
In the Southern Region Football League’s Premier Division sponsored by Masters Security Services, there is a cat and mouse chase for the top spot between former TNM Super League participant Blantyre United and Mitra Icons.
Blantyre United beat Poly 2-0 on Thursday to reclaim their lead which Mitra Icons have been holding. They have 38 points, one ahead of Mitra, who have two games in hand.
On third position are Chikwawa United with 35 points from 18 games, MDF Marines are fourth also with 35 points.
