HRDC salutes police on Nsundwe suspects screening

Rights defenders, the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has saluted the police for what they said detailed screening of all the suspects in the murder of a police officer before they are charged.

Nsundwe suspects being taken to court

HRDC chairperson Timothy Mtambo said this after the police refused the rights activists permission to see the suspects at Lilongwe police station.

They were told to visit them today, Friday.

But Mtambo said HRDC has been told that the police are doing the detailed screening of the suspects so that only those found with evidence on the murder could be prosecuted.

“After the incident, the police went to Nsundwe, literally picking almost everyone they found. Now, they are doing the screening before before the suspects are charged,” he said.

The police arrested 41 suspects in the Nsundwe police officer murder saga which has infuriated the nation.

The suspects were taken to appear before the magistrates’ court in Lilongwe today, Friday for arraignment.

I am very sorry and saddened by the current deaths of our Police officers. Apolice athu kodi mukupanga training yanji masiku ano? Zikundidabwitsa bwanji? Mukungophunzira kuomba teargas basi? Usilikaliwanji woti mukuona mzanu akuphedwa inu liwiro kuthawa mfuti ziri m’manja? Mukuopa chani? You are protected by law. Mudaona adachita anzanu ku Karonga? They were caught up in the same situation, but they managed to combat. Kukuchitika chani ku police training? A true soldier must be the last to die. I rest my case.

“The police arrested 41 suspects in the Nsundwe police officer murder saga which has infuriated the nation.”

Exactly what has infuriated the nation? The arrest of so many people (some of whom at least are innocent or have been beaten), or the murder? I am infuriated over the former. It is hard to be infuriated over the latter when we see how the police behave generally, such as teargassing to death that child at QECH.

Nanga amademo amamenya anthu aja, even damaging property, which means kumenya is not a problem but cause life loss,is the big issue. So, Mayaya issue kwa HRDC is not an issue.

As long as this conduct of selective justice is dealt with, there will be no peace for the police. Unfortunately most of our policemen are just victims of political information. Next time there is myhem at Msundwe, Mwapasa and his fellow commissioners should go in person to control the crowd other than exposing other people to danger just to appease the political masters. Innocent people are dying just because you are protecting a so called Supreme Court Judge who cannot even express herself competently in the queens language.

The Supreme Court Judge is just busy with a cup of 4.00 pm coffee and asks the same police to escort her to Shoprite while the Imedi family their batter and bread is cut -off permanently no supplier.
