Jacaranda to hold  children’s poetry competition

Jacaranda will from September 29 to October 4, 201 7hold a children’s poetry competition which will create a platform for young literary interested individuals from eight to 12 years to showcase their talent.

Deputy Director at Jacaranda Culture Centre, Daisy Belfield said this in an interview with Mana in Blantyre, that this was a platform that would encourage young people to horn their art skills.

“Not only formal education can enhance our children to be encouraged in arts, this platform would prompt children to learn from each other.We are building bridges through poetry across schools, from the international private schools to government primary schoolsto homeless organisations. There is talent everywhere and poetry can live in every child.” She said.

“We hope the competition would bring communities together and help us to appreciate diverse forms of talent,” Belfield viewed.

The Deputy Director said the winners would be announced on October7, 2017 and they would perform alongside the adult professionals at Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF)in the early hours on October 8, 2017.

“We wish to make our venue at BAF as interactive and family orientated as possible. We would have the professional adults on stage in the afternoon. So the young poets would feel important to have had performed on the same stage.

“What better way is there to encourage our children then showing them that we acknowledge their talents?” Belfield added.
