Joy Radio technician arrested for assaulting driver

Soche Police in Blantyre have arrested head technician for Joy Radio Station Adbul Razak Telera for beating up a driver after he refused to surrender a company car to run personal errands.

Nyasa Times understands that this is the second time Telera has assaulted a fellow employee as he also roughed up the station’s messenger last year.

According sources at the radio, the incident happened on Monday at the Joy Radio headquarters in Blantyre.

“Telera invited the driver a Mr Chimwaza to his office where he started to interrogate him why he refused to go to his house in Chilobwe to surrender the car,” said the sources.

The driver is said to have responded that management did not give him consent to leave the car with him over the weekend.

Telera then started to beat him right in his office until some members of staff rescued the helpless driver from the assault.

After the incident the technician knocked off around 11 am after the driver to report the matter to police.

After being summoned, Telera surrendered himself to the Police on Tuesday morning.

Telera who is on police bail is expected to appear in court to answer a charge of common assault.

The matter has also been report to the Communication Workers Union of Malawi, which Joy Radio is an affiliate.

  4. If indeed this is the second time, where is Joy Management and what is it doing about it since things took place within premises? Am of the view that this should not have been a Police issue before Management handled it, unless the assaulter is untouchable man to management!

  5. Am finding it hard to understand y someone would really submit a small issue like this one yet there are big issues happening in that organization which am sure this story was submitted by one of the joy radio staff. These are the questions i would like to ask joy radio staff who submitted this small issue
When was the last time you got paid?
The radio can only be accessed in Blantyre as a community yet it”s a national broadcaster?

These are the issues you were suppose to submit ku nyasatimes ndipo zinakakuthandiza iwe wemwe cos Atupele anakaona and you would have been paid.

My advice to you my dear driver…next time forget he is your boss, retaliate and beat him up just like a government driver beat up the whole Principal Secretary (PS). 16. Islamicaly, Umunthucaly and whatever we can call it, the brother who after the driver explain the reasons of no consent – is wrong and he deserve a disciplinary hearing after the court appearance. he must be fined dearly to stop him doing this any time to any body, he must also sent to the Anger Management Bureau he is sick.

The lessons must also be learnt, every place of work there are rules, regulations and bylaws and are necessary to be followed – its an fortunate for work mates to turn on each other – if the car was an urgent issue for say a sick person to be transported to the hospital, top manager suppose to be requested either in writing or by phone, but if it was just for shubu then the driver was right not to surrender the keys.

  17. I don’t get it: the fourth sentence from teh bottom: After the incident the technician knocked off around 11 am after the driver to report the matter to police??? What kind of sentence construction is this? It’s so confusing. Does it mean the driver left the office earlier than the technician? Does it mean the technician followed the driver to report the matter to police? Who reported the matter to police? Please re-phrase the sentence and be clear, osathamanga. Re-read the article before submitting to sub-editors, that is if there are any.
