A local radio station is reporting that former head of state, Joyce Banda, is due to return home next month from her four year self-imposed exile in the United States of America.
Zodiak is quoting an unnamed official close to Banda as saying she has completed her assignments which included lecturing and studying and would now return home.
However, the report did not indicate whether Banda would contest for the 2019 presidency.
She comes at a time when her People’s Party (PP) is deeply divided, fractured and facing huge defections to other parties due to lack of party leadership caused by her prolonged stay in the US.
PP spokesperson Nowa Chipeni said he did not have any information on the matter whilst the former president’s spokesperson Andekuche Chamthunya said his office would release a press statement on the issue soon.
The office of the director of public prosecutions says Banda would be charged in connection with the K30 billion plunder of public money at Capital Hill in the infamous cashgate.
The graft busting body, the Anti-Corruption Bureau director Reyneck Matemba said recently his office is investigating her on a K7 billion donation allegedly made dubiously to her now defunct Mudzi Transformation Trust.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
