Joyce Banda denies forming new party: PP says speculation is regime propaganda
Former president Joyce Banda has parried away “speculation” that she has formed and registered a new party called Democratic People’s Congress (Depeco).

The reports have been rife on social media and a certificate of registration has also been circulated.
But spokesman of the erstwhile ruling People’s Party (PP) Noah Chimpeni , MP, told Nyasa Times in an interview that the matter is not true and is government bid to distract Malawian from the headline subjects of poverty.
Chimpeni called the false story as “stupidity at its best practised by agents of a ruling party at its worst.”
Said the PP spokesman: “Why would Dr Joyce Banda form a political party when she already have a vibranr party (PP) that is represented in the National Assembly with 24 MPs? For what purpose would that party be?
“This is DPP propaganda aimed at diverting people’s attenrion from real issues affecting the country.”
Asked to comment on the certificate of registration which is now in public domain, Chimpeni said: “Having a certificate is no evidence that the party was registered by PP founding president.”
He continued: “The DPP is obsessed with the name of Dr Joyce Banda because they have failed to make Malawians forget the good things she did in this country during the two years she was in charge.”
DPP spokesman Francis Kasaila said he could not comment on the matter because he was not aware of the new political party.
Last week another speculation were rife that former vice president Cassim Chilumpha has formed a political party.
But Chilumpha also denied the claims.
