Kabaza man brutally murdered in Ntcheu

Malawi Police in Ntcheu district are hunting for unknown criminals who murdered a 40-year-old bicycle taxi operator (Kabaza).

Man killed

Police have identified the deceased as Labani Afiki who was operating his business at Kankawo Trading Centre in Balaka district.

“He was found murdered at around 6pm at Kandota village in Ntcheu district,” explained Ntcheu police Public Relations Officer, Hastings Chigalu.

Chigalu said Afiki was hired by unknown person to take him to Ntonda Trading Centre in Ntcheu, where he met his fate.

“After noticing that his brother cannot be traced, Mr. Kambwiri Yusufu reported the matter to Police. However, it was on the said date that his body was found in a garden, fifty meters away from Ndenga earth road with his bicycle beside him but was stripped off his trouser,” said Chigalu.

Two big stones were also found near his body, believed to have been used in the murder.

And postmortem conducted by medical personnel revealed that Afiki died due to severe bleeding secondary to head injuries.

“Motive behind this gruesome murder is not yet known as no person has been arrested so far, but we are investigating to establish the truth behind this murder.”

Afiki hailed from Lupanga village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Msamala, Balaka district.

Meanwhile Police is advising all bicycle taxi operators to observe maximum caution when doing their business, mostly during night times.

“They should not only look at making more money ignoring the security of their own lives. They should observe time and distance.”
