Kachikuwo back in the rank and file of Malawi Police
Former Malawi Police Director of Finance Elijah Kachikuwo has been given another opportunity to continue serving in the Malawi Police Service but this time as an Officer In-charge at Mangochi Police Station.
Kachikuwo was arrested and later suspended to pave way for investigations after he was implicated in a K400 million scam in December last year.
When contacted to get his reaction following the lifting of his suspension, Kachikuwo expressed ignorance on the matter saying “I have not being communicated and I dont know anything”.
But Deputy National Police Public Relations Officer Kelvin Maigwa confirmed the return and transfering of Kachikuwo to the Eastern Region District of Mangochi.
“My confirmation is only that he is being posted to Mangochi as an Officer In-charge,” said Maigwa while refusing to comment further on the matter.
Kachikuwo was arrested alongside five people from the Accounts department at the Malawi Police Service and some from the Accountant General’s Office.
The then Police Inspector General Peter Mkhitho said he suspected some people from the Accountant Generals Office were using government department accounts including Malawi Police for fraud activities.
