Kafere is Central Region Chess League chair

Stanley Kafere emerged as the new Central Region Chess League (CRCL) chairperson after being elected unopposed during elections on at Lilongwe Technical College.

Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) publicity secretary Gilton Mkumbwa described the elections as “free and fair.”

Kafere will be deputised by sports journalists and chess player Leonard Sharra.

Malawi national team chess player Chuma Mwale: In the committee

Petros Mfune and Alfred Chimthere swapped their general secretary and publicist positions.

Fiskani Mwagomba took over the post of treasurer.

Those elected in the as committee members included Chuma Mwale, Aaron Phiri, Davie Mawango and Joe Mbang’ombe.

The Northern Region Chess League also held their elections and ushered in Isaac Mumba as new  chairperson. He narrowly defeated Kondwani Nyirenda by 14-12 votes.

The Southern Region Chess League will hold their elections this Sunday at the College of Medicine in Blantyre.

It will be a two-horse race for the chairperson post between the incumbent chairperson Susan  Namangale and general secretary Stanley  Mpinganjira.
