Kamuzu Central Hospital has suspended all theatre operations and others clinical works that require running water because of water crisis that affected the medical facility .
Nyasa Times understands that the water problem started on Sunday night due to a burst pipe.
But reports indicate that patients who were scheduled to be operated Monday have been rescheduled to other days.
Ministry of Health spokesperson, Henry Chimbali referred the matter to the Hospital Director Mrs Chinkhata who confirmed about the problem saying: “The problem is there and Lilongwe Water Board has been informed and they are working on it. “
She added: “A pipe busted and they have sent their personnel to fix the problem.”
The hospital’s medical staff who spoke to Nyasa Times said they could not conduct any operation because some materials they use were still unwashed due to lack of water.
Patients and guardians have been exposed to poor sanitation as there was bad smell in various departments at the hospital while the floor could not be mopped.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
