Kamwendo, Ng’ambi back in Malawi squad for Guinea match

Malawi have named a mixture of experienced and up and coming  players in their 30-man squad for the 2017  Africa Cup of Nations final qualifying round, first leg tie against Guinea in March.

In the squad, coach Ernest Mtawali , has also handed  Azam Tigers  goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe  his first call up.

Also on the goalkeepers list is Brighton Munthali and John Soko of Blue Eagles, while those playing in foreign land, goalkeepers Simplex Nthara and Charles Swini have also been called.

Missing from the list is last season’s fantastic goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa,  enterprising midfielder Yamikani Chester, while midfielder Nelson Kangunje, who was part of the squad that travelled to Cecafa   – has been dropped.

Mtawali  has also called some vastly experienced players like Joseph Kamwendo, Robert Ng’ambi and Robin Ngalande, while Atusaye Nyondo, Frank Banda and Esau Kanyenda were left out.

Also back in the squad is Mighty Be Forward Wanderers left back Francis Mlimbika after he recovered from his last season long injury.

The Flames’ boss was quick to confess it will not be easy to beat Guinea but  said with the crop of the players which he has selected  they will fight hard.

“Definitely we expect a very tough game. Guinea  is not a small team, but with the players that I have we will make things very difficult for them.  Guinea  will work very hard for their money but we will make things very tough for them.

“We will try to play a very cautious game and if they open up, we get a chance, we will make use of it. And should we score, we will defend that goal to the end,” explained the Malawi coach.

Mtawali , however, highlighted Guinea’s  tendency to play fast football, and knows his men must remain alert. He is confident, though.

Meanwhile, the  local players are expected to arrive at Mpira Lodge on Sunday 21st February 2016 by 16:00 hours.

The foreign based players will join the team later on.

That is according to the coach, but as for me i dont see the logic of taking those frm injuries and those who were /are warming the bench or have no clubs like Joseph Kamwendo, anyway all the best

Thats a great move by Enerst. However,he needs to set a team based solery on good perfomance, mental uprightness, physical positivity and highly inspirational.Names of players should not be the passport to be in flames squad.Best wishes

Judging from the physical stature of Guinean players,I think Tawonga and Young Chimodzi Jr would make better midfielders than Kamwendo and Chimango Kaira. I don’t think a player who plays in Mozambique can be better than the one in Greece. Mtawali doesn’t have good judgement. Also, I think Kanyenda or Nyondo would contribute better upfront than fellow South African based flop Ngalande.
