Kamwendo reinstated as Malawi captain
TP Mazembe and Flames international gifted midfielder Josephy “Shakira” Kamwendo has been re-instated as the Malawi national team captain.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) based talented player was stripped of the captain’s armband by former Flames Belgian coach Tom Saintfeit.
According to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) , the Flames coach returned the armband on Sunday when Flames went down 2-0 to Mali away in Bamako.
Kamwendo confirmed his appointment in an interview with Nyasa Times and promised to work hard as a pay back to the faith the technical panel has in him.
“It means a lot to me and I don’t take it for granted because the coaching panel could have chosen anyone but they gave it to me so I am going to work extra hard just to repay the faith they have shown to me” said Kamwendo.
Kamwendo’s glittering career saw him playing in big clubs including South Africa’s Orlando Pirates, Caps United in Zimbabwe, Liga Muculmana de Maputo in Mozambique before settling at Mazembe.
He is set to captain the team on Wednesday at the Kamuzu Stadium as they play Ethiopia in their second group match of the 2015 Afcon Qualifiers whose finals will be played in Morocco
