Kanyenda ‘throws kitchen sink’ at Wanderers coach

Mighty Wanderers’ 1-0 loss to archrivals Bullets FC in the TNM Super League on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre has forced raised eyebrows on the credentials of coach Gerard Phiri and his backroom staff team manager Kannock Munde and his assistant Thom Milanzi.

Former Wanderers General Secretary David Kanyenda posted on his Facebook page that the head coach’s position was shaky.

The former outspoken General Secretary, who is a lawyer, said Wanderers were too big for Phiri to handle as the team fight for survival in the top flight league.

“A coach is as good as his results. The last three coaches won a trophy within a season but were fired. Franco [Ndawa], [Felix]Fosco and Stuart [Mbolembole].We have been knocked out of all trophies and we are now flirting with relegation. Gerald’s position is untenable,” Kanyenda said.

He said his position should be assessed as the team would like to get good results.

“It has to be reviewed. At a big club like Nomads, we want instant results,” he said.

One of Nomads fan Eric Bob Munthali backed Kanyenda’s agenda for change at the Lali Lubani coaching panel.

“He failed somewhere. He has never achieved anything as a head coach. It was a relief to Bullets that he left,” Munthali said.

Another fan Eric Zakariya suggested that Gerald Phiri should resign to pave the way for newly appointed Technical Director Yasin Osman to take over the team.

“Yasin better take over the mantle. He is really capable and on the other side of the coin, let Gerald voluntarily throw in the towel and find his way out of the Lali Lubani,” Zakariya said.

But Shadreck Kachule said the call for the coach’s head was unfair considering that the players needed motivation to deliver.

“We look at the results superficially. Our players need motivation from different Nomads stakeholders,” he said.

But  Geoffrey Kabaghe said firing the coach would not hekp the cause to turn around the fortunes of the team.

“I don’t think firing a coach is a best solution. Nomads is passing through bad times. As Nomads fans we need to be united in this time. We should only fight fourth top sixth position because you can’t build a team when the transfer season is closed,” he said.

Wanderers are 10th position with 20 points from 18 games they have played in the league game.

let us look at all corners of the team:
TRUSTEES- ALL of them are too greedy, instead of assisting the team, they want to gain.
CHAIRMAN- He helps the team financially but listens to bad advise from his buttman ONANI.
EXUCUTIVE- HAS

Iwe ukuti Bullets defence is shaky sumawutsata mpira. You judge the defence of the team by the number of goals the team concedes not a mistake by one defender in a particular game. Despite not scoring more goals, we have conceded fewest goals thus far in the league. Musova wawa

Players need to jack up too, they play as if they are playing for karonga united. That’s a big team we need fighters no need for small team mentality. On the other hand the tactics of the coach need to be looked into, the right flank was completely dead that day only the left flank was alive. I thought he will look at it and correct. Bullets has a weak defense and easily makes mistake with any ball coming through. Lets build the team for next season this time around lets accept we have failed. The executive need to be… Read more »
